Grand Hospitality
Location easy to find beside the Noorjahan Hospital Tower as a landmark, easy walk up from the main bazaars, in a clean safe area of town (not that Sylhet, though busy, is anywhere near the traffic choke of Dhaka or Chittagong, both of which felt safe - apart from crossing the road - anyway.)
Exceptional value, clean & clean-cut style; room large pleasantly furnished, comfortable bed, en suite bathroom fine, WiFi strong.
What was an unexpected bonus was breakfast in bed: milk tea, tasty aloo dahl with parathas, served with a cheery smile.
Thank you much, good people. Just a pity I couldn't have stayed longer, as planned. But that's the best laid schemes of travel for you.

The decision to launder the clothes took management 15 mins while they stood there soaking wet.
They had to shower before returning to our meal which was semi cold by then, the children did not want to eat.
More than half the meal remained untouched yet we were still asked to pay for our meal.
I refused sighting this incident which had spoilt the meal and the mood for the whole family.
It took half an hour to reach a conclusion to cancel the bill.
Later in the coffee lounge in the lobby we ordered a pinacolada which tasted nothing like the description, more like a pineapple juice. We asked for it to be taken away and replaced with a hot chocolate.
The waiter refused and persisted to push us to accept the drink.
He then bought us a replacement hot chocolate.
He then charged us for the pinacolada and the replacement hot chocolate.
He was very adamant that we pay and the manger also agreed.
My daughter had the ice-cream, she was given a quarter of a scoop of each in a plastic cup which i thought was a taster!
The TV in my room had no signal, and the phone did not make calls to reception or services.
There was drilling going on in the hotel and continued past 6pm. We had to complain twice before it stopped then started the tapping of manual hammers!
Overall the hotel looks nice from outside but, the food is not great,
compulsory 25% service and surcharge on food,
extortionate prices,
you can’t order food from outside,
the pool needs to be cleaned and the jacuzzi jets don’t work.
Not a great experience.
